1. What recording resolutions are available??

The LTA Economy Class 4 & 8 Channel DVR's will record Real-time up to 30fps each channel in CIF or 6fps in 4CIF/D1.
The RTA Enterprise Class RTA will record at 4CIF/D1 all channels at 15fps or up to 30fps each channel in CIF or 2CIF.
The Advanced Enterprise Class RTA D1 will record 4CIF/D1 all channels Real-time at 30fps or up to 30fps each channel in CIF or 2CIF.

2. What is Dual Streaming???

Dual Streaming is a process of separating network quality and FPS settings from DVR recording settings. This feature allows you to use high-resolution recording to the hard drive and lower resolution and frame rates for fluent network transmission. Dual Streaming is a feature only found on the RTA Enterprise Class and the RTA Enterprise Advanced Class DVR’s. In simpler terms, this feature allows you to record in one frame rate and resolution and also remotely stream video and a lesser rate. Typically most DVR’s on the market will only stream video at the same rate as it is recording. The problem is, lets assume you have your DVR configured to record in D1 at 30fps. This rate and resolution will be extremely difficult to remotely view especially if the Internet speed is slow either at the DVR location or at the location you are attempting to view from. By having a DVR with Dual Streaming, you can record at the highest frame rate and resolution and configure the DVR to stream in 2CIF at 12fps providing a much more fluid video and also allowing you to open more than one camera at a time

3. What is Real-Time Recording?

Real-Time recording is a function of the DVR to be able to actually record immediately to the hard drive. Many DVR’s on the market will store video temporally and then write to the drive. We have tested this feature by unplugging the DVR and noting the exact time to the second. When we plugged the system back in and played back the video, we were able to see that the video was written to the hard drive right up to the last second.

4. Can I configure this DVR to continuous record between certain hours and only record motion events between other hours?

Yes. For example, you can configure this DVR to record only motion events between the hours of 6:00pm and 6:00am and have it record continuous from 6:00am to 6:00pm. Furthermore, each channel can be configured independent of each other for different recording schemes.

5. How many channels can I play back at the same time?

Up to 4 channels can be played back simultaneously using both the Client Software and the web viewer. While in the 4 camera play back mode you can fast forward or pause any camera while the others continue to playback at normal speed.

6. How much recording time will I get with a 250Gb Hard Drive?

The amount of archive capacity depends on many factors. Those factors are frame rate and resolution you are recording in. By recording at 30fps in D1, you will consume more hard drive space than you would record at 15fps in 2CIF. Also it depends on the number of channels your DVR is recording. For example, a 4 channel DVR with a 250Gb hard drive set to record at 30fps in D1 all channels 24 hours a day will archive approximately 4.5 days.  If we configured the DVR to record at 30fps in 2CIF all channels 24 hours a day, the DVR will archive approximately 11 days.

7. Can I install more hard drives myself? Do I need a special hard drive?

Yes and Yes. The installation of additional drives is very easy and once the hard drive is installed, the DVR will recognize it and there is no need to format the drive. It is highly recommended to use a hard drive specifically designed for surveillance. Your normal computer hard drive is designed to be written to occasionally, read occasionally and so forth. Surveillance hard drives are written to 24/7. Our DVR’s are equipped with hard drives designed for this harsh task.

8. What Kind of Hard Drives are installed in the DVR?

We use Seagate’s SV35 Series hard drives.

10. Will I need a Static IP address ( an IP address that does not change )?

No. The G4 Series DVR supports a number of free DDNS providers that will track your IP address if it does change. Please click here for more information.

11. How many users can be logged in to the DVR at the same time?

Up to 24 simultaneous network sessions can be logged in at the same time. A session is defined as any one camera being viewed.

12. Can I assign certain access rights to each user?

Yes. Each user can be configured for as much or as little access as you desire. You may only want user 1 to only view cameras 1-4 and no access to the DVR settings whereas you may want user 2 to have complete administrator rights. By having complete admin access, user 2 can perform any and all tasks within the DVR up to including formatting the drive and erasing all archived video.

13. Can I remotely disconnect an online user?

Yes. This can be accomplished in two ways. First, if you are at the DVR location you can see who is actually online by accessing the menu. By selecting that user, you can disconnect them. If you are logged in to the DVR remotely, you can view the DVR log to see who is logged in. If you wish to disconnect a user remotely, you will need to reboot the DVR, which you can easily do as an admin user. By rebooting the DVR, this will disconnect everyone who is logged in including yourself but once the DVR reboots, you will be able to log back in.

14. Can I play back recorded video on my Windows Media Player?

In its’ raw recorded form, no but the video is easily converted to an .avi file within the Video File Player that is included with the DVR. Generally, with our local customers, we download the event and burn the file to a DVD and also burn a copy of the file player on the same DVD so whoever has the DVD will be able play back the video. This has worked very well with our area Police Departments. Part of our service to our local customers includes our retrieving events remotely from their DVR. We had an urgent request from our local Police that they needed to view an armed robbery. We were able to access the DVR, download the event, convert to an .avi file, post on our website and the Police were able to view the event within 15 minutes from a laptop in a Police car on scene.

15. Does the G4 DVR send email messages with images?

Yes, the G4 RTA and the Advanced G4 RTA will send email alerts with image attachments.
